Greenland’s smallest government party, Partii Naleraq, wants full independence from Denmark from 2021.
That sets the tone before the Inatsisartut (Greenland’s parliament) elections on 24 April.
The Partii Naleraq now adds fuel to the independence debate, according to Sermitsiaq.ag.
The goal of the party, which is currently in government (Naalakkersuisut) together with the two bigger parties Siumut and Inuit Ataqatigiit, is for Greenland to declare its freedom on its National Day, 21. June, 2021.
That date marks the 300th anniversary for Hans Egede’s arriving at Greenland, a man also known as Greenland’s Apostle, and the Danish colonialization of the country – according to Partii Naleraq.
