The Swedish government has decided that the Swedish Armed Forces can prepare to make future joint operations with other NATO members possible. The preparations may consist of the temporary deployment of foreign military equipment and personnel on Swedish territory.

"The greatly deteriorated security situation in our vicinity after Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, has showcased the importance of Sweden having a close operative cooperation with NATO and states that are members of NATO," emphasizes Sweden's Minister of Defence Pål Jonson in a press release.

This week, the Swedish government decided that the Swedish Armed Forces can prepare to make future joint operations with other NATO members possible.

The preparations may consist of the temporary deployment of foreign military equipment and personnel on Swedish territory. The aim is to prevent conflicts in the immediate areas and strengthen the defense of Sweden.

"This is an important step toward Sweden's integration in NATO," says Minister of Defence Jonson.

When planning operations with other countries and organizations, there may arise a need to prepare at short notice to receive military support and enable joint operations. This can, for example, be done through the temporary foreign deployment of weapon systems, ships, government aircraft, and personnel, the press release further states.
