Increase in Child Poverty in Iceland

Poverty among children during the period 2008 to 2012 has increased.

Poverty among children during the period 2008 to 2012 has increased most in Iceland out of the OECD countries, according to a new UNICEF report entitled Children of the Recession: The impact of the economic crisis on child well-being in rich countries, Iceland Review reports.

Child poverty increased by more than 20 percent from 2008 to 2012, from 11.2 to 31.6 percent.

Children in lone parent families and workless households and migrant children are most likely to be under the poverty line, the report found.
