Greenland fish firm expands in Northern Norway

Tomorrow, Greenlandic firm Polar Seafood, will officially open its second processing plant in northern Norway.

The facility in Kjølleford, a town of 1000 inhabitants close to Nordkapp, will begin production next month and be fully operational by January, The Arctic Journal reports.

According to manager Trygve Åsvestad the first order of business will be to build up a network of local and foreign fishermen to supply enough fish to keep the operation running.

At start-up, the plant will employ 20 people and process up to 5000 tonnes of fish annually. The capacity can be expanded to as much as 10.000 tonnes annually, according to Mr. Åsvestad.

Polar Seafood is also active in Canada, Russia and Denmark, and from Norway the firm expects primarily to export cod, haddock and Pollock to Europe.
