The summit between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will begin at 11:30 local time (Alaska Daylight Time), Kremlin confirms. The meeting will take place at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska, and will be followed by a joint press conference.

The meeting between the two presidents will start with a one-on-one conversation in which only interpreters will be present, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov announced on Thursday in a briefing, published by the Kremlin-aligned Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

After the initial meeting, the parties will continue negotiations in the format of a working breakfast.

According to Ushakov, the agenda will focus on three main topics. First, the leaders will address the Ukraine crisis, exploring possible pathways toward resolving the conflict and assessing its impact on US-Russia relations.

Second, they will discuss global security issues, with an "emphasis on maintaining international and regional peace and stability".

Seeking cooperation

Finally, the talks will cover the state of bilateral relations, with both sides "seeking to identify untapped opportunities for cooperation between Washington and Moscow".

The Russian delegation will include Ushakov, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and Russian Direct Investment Fund head Kirill Dmitriev, the advisor said.

The meeting will be followed by a joint press conference.

Departs immediately

Ushakov said the U.S. side has finalized its delegation list but left it to Washington to announce. The Russian delegation is expected to depart for Moscow immediately after the meeting concludes.

Ushakov said the Kremlin views it as symbolic that the meeting will take place "near the graves of Soviet pilots in Alaska." Putin's advisor added that Russia sees untapped potential in U.S.-Russia trade and economic ties.

The meeting comes amid heightened global attention towards the Arctic, as it marks a rare high-level encounter between the two authoritarian leaders since the escalation of the Ukraine war.
