Russian-American Andrey Petrov is taking over as chairperson of the International Arctic Social Sciences Association.


Russian-American Andrey Petrov is taking over as chairperson of the International Arctic Social Sciences Association.

Petrov was born in Russia, completed his PhD in Canada and currently lives in the USA, where he is Associate Professor of Social Sciences Manager of the Arctic Centre at the University of Northern Iowa.

Petrov won the presidency of IASSA following a secret ballot, according to a press release from Umeå University.

The IASSA organizes the ICASS (International Congress on Arctic Social Sciences) conference every three years, and this year more than 800 researchers attended the conference, which took place in Umeå, Sweden.

The 2020 conference will be held at the Northern Arctic Federal University in Arkhangelsk, Russia.
