State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin has proposed to liquidate the NATO military alliance, the Interfax news agency reported Thursday.

State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin has proposed to liquidate the NATO military alliance, the Interfax news agency reported Thursday.

- I have a special attitude toward this organization, which I consider a cancer tumor on the entire European continent, Naryshkin said at a meeting with Serbian National Assembly speaker Maja Gojkovic, adding that “it would be better if that organization had been dissolved.”

Sergei Naryskin is a Russian official, politician and businessman who has been chairman of the State Duma for the last four years. Previously he was the head of the Administration of the President of Russia, and he was also a chairman of the Historical Truth Commission in May 2009, until the commission was dissolved in February 2012.

According to Naryshkin the dissolution of the transatlantiv military alliance, established after World War II in order to protect Europe from the military power of the Soviet Union, could be carried out in several steps.

The chairman of the State Duma believes the liquidation of NATO could be a good step toward strengthening security and stability in Europe, Interfax reports.

First of all, the United States should be excluded. After that “the whole organization could be dissolved painlessly”, Naryshkin was quoted by the news agency as saying.
