Will the Kvanefjell dam hold?

Much insecurity surrounds the plans for establishing a mine in the Kvanefjell area in Greenland.

The Kvanefjell mountain contains uranium as well as one of the world’s largest deposits of 15 rare rocks, and the Australian-owned company GME wants to invest eight billion Danish kroner in establishing the mine.

Mining waste is to be deposited in a seafill deposit at Lake Taseq, where a 45-metres wall will be built at the outlet in order to establish the dam. The deposit will be 68 meters high, three kilometers long and one kilometer wide. It should be covered by 6 metres of wanter, according to Sermitsiaq.
