Well-Known Climate Scientist Dies in Glacier Accident on Greenland
The internationally recognized climate scientist Konrad Steffen is presumed to have died on the inland ice in Greenland last weekend, according to Sermitsiaq.
Steffen was leader of the Swiss federal institute for forest, snow and landscape surveys.
The accident happened near the Swiss Camp weather station, a research station Steffen helped establish in 1990. It is located some 70 kilometers from Ilulissat.
Steffen is presumed to have fallen into a crevasse in the inland ice but his body remains yet to be found.
