Wants to Protect Humpback Whales

Mikael Rosing of the Cooperation Party on Greenland wants to protect the humpback whales in the Godthåb Fjord.

- I believe that we are mismanaging our living resources if we continue to permit humpback whale hunting in the Godthåb Fjord, Rosing says, according to Sermitsiaq.

This hunt was resumed in 2010 following a 24-year period of its being banned.

According to the Greenland INstitute of Natural Resources, three out of the six stationary whales in the fjord were caught as early as in 2014.

The Sermersooq municipality board on the southeastern tip of Greenland will decide on the proposal during its meeting today.
