Wants More Barents Sea Gas

Director of the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate Bente Nyland urges oil companies to intensify the chase for gas in the North, despite there not being any existing solutions for exporting new gas finds from the Barents Sea to the markets.

The Directorate expects nearly two thirds of gas resources yet to be found to be located in the Barents Sea. – This emphasizes the significance of the Barents Sea for gas production in a longer term perspective, Nyland says to petro.no.

- There is new capacity in the Polarled and there will be capacity available over time in other parts of infrastructure. This makes the search for gas deposits more attractive, and it is important for the industry to make the most of this opportunity and intensify the search, Nyland says.
