Wants Greenlandic Mummies Returned from the USA

Greenlandic politician Doris S. Jensen (S) has launched an initiative to have five mummies from Greenland returned from the USA, Sermitsiaq writes. The mummies are currently located at the Peabody Museum at Harvard University.

The five mummies were discovered on Uunartoq island north of Nanortalik in Greenland in 1929. The American anthropologist who found them, had them brought to the USA.

The mummies are estimated to be some 500 years old.

Doris S. Jensen has taken an initiative to make Greenland’s self-rule authorities take the necessary formal steps in order to have the mummies returned.
