Wants to Give Greenland and the Faroe Islands A Stronger Voice in Foreign Policy

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in her speech at yesterday’s opening of the Folketing [parliament] that she wants to give Greenland and the Faroe Islands a stronger voice in foreign policy, according to KNR.

She argued that both climate changes and the increased international interest in the Arctic pulls the Faroe Islands and Greenland further in on the international stage.

- I can fully well understand the desire from the Faroe Islands and Greenland to play a more active role in foreign and security policy, she said.

The PM was, however, not specific about where or how their voice will be better heard when it comes to foreign and security policy.
