UNICEF Award to Greenlandic Organisation

This year's UNICEF award goes to the children's rights organisation MIO, which receives praise for its work in putting children's issues on the agenda, writes UNICEF in a press release.

It is UNICEF Denmark that awards the prize every year to a person, an organisation, or a company that has made an extraordinary effort for children in Denmark or internationally over a number of years.

"MIO has worked for ten years to spread awareness about the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child in Greenland. Through concrete initiatives and thorough travel reports, MIO has helped put into words the reality of children and young people in Greenland in an empathetic and honest way," says UNICEF Denmark's justification for awarding the prize.

Children's spokesperson Aviâja Egede Lynge on Greenland says she is touched by the praise:

"It touches me that it is an award from UNICEF because we work towards the same aim. It is very surprising and very big. It is important that we acknowledge each other, and this award does just that," she says.
