UiT Establishes New Center for Geopolitics and Security in the North

UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, is establishing a new center for geopolitics and security in the North. The Center for Geopolitics, Peace, and Security (GPS) will strengthen knowledge, research, and decision-making support in a geopolitically challenging time.

That was reported by UiT on their website.

"Low tension in the High North is no longer a precise description of the time we live in. UiT is the world's northernmost university, with a responsibility to contribute updated knowledge in a new geopolitical situation. We will also make this knowledge available as decision-making support for policy, society, and business," says Rector Dag Rune Olsen at UiT.

The center will be based in Tromsø and Kirkenes and will provide updated knowledge on the new security and geopolitical situation in the North, contribute to resilient local communities through multidisciplinary research, and strengthen cooperation with national and regional actors, such as the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI).
