Tromsø Ends Friendship Cooperation With Russian Cities

On Monday, the Norwegian Labour Party, Centre Party, Socialist Left Party, and Green Party, in Tromsø municipality in Northern Norway, announced that they are in favor of terminating the twin city arrangements with Arkhangelsk, Murmansk, and Nadym. Yesterday, Tuesday, Mayor Gunnar Wilhelmsen (Labor) put forward a proposal to this effect on behalf of the aforementioned parties. The proposal was approved unanimously.

"With the escalation of the war and the atrocities that are now playing out in Ukraine, we now view it impossible to not end the friendship agreements we have with the Russian cities," writes the mayor's office in a press release.

Cooperation within these agreements has been on pause since Russia invaded Ukraine this winter. Now, the structural framework will also be terminated.
