Tom Cruise To Shoot Mission: Impossible on Svalbard

Tom Cruise returns to Norway - this time to Svalbard - to shoot a new Mission: Impossible movie, confirms the Norwegian Film Institute to P4 News. The filming will probably take place in the coming weeks.

"Tom Cruise finds the most spectacular locations and we know that parts of the movie will be shot on Svalbard," says Dag Asbjørnsen, Manager of International Relations Drama Series and Short Films at the Norwegian Film Institute.

In December, it was revealed that the film company Paramount would not receive supporting funds of NOK 68 million through the film incentive scheme to shoot on Svalbard. The decline was justified with the concern for the nature and the environment. Paramount is now footing the entire bill themselves.

"It is positive that Mission: Impossible wants to use the spectacular surroundings on Svalbard as backdrop. What I've said before is that the polar nature up there is vulnerable and we will not extend the film incentive scheme to apply there  – to not reward increased footprints," comments the Norwegian Minister of Culture and Equality, Annette Trettebergstuen (Labor), to P4.
