Svea Mine on Svalbard Restored

Sveagruva on Svalbard has now been cleared after over 100 years of mining, reports Store Norske. The project was carried out at NOK 900 million below the original budget and completed one year ahead of schedule. On Tuesday, the Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen visited the area.

"It is no longer enough to protect nature, we must also restore damaged nature. This project gives us valuable experience with nature restoration and sets the level of ambition for when we start restoring nature in several places in Norway," he said in a press release.

The minister visited Svalbard this week.
