Subsea Cable to Svalbard Underway
Last year, the Norwegian government entered into an agreement with Space Norway to establish a new subsea fiber connection to Svalbard. The project has a cost framework of NOK 2.8 billion.
The new subsea fiber cable to Svalbard, Arctic Way, also branches out to Jan Mayen, which does not currently have a submarine fiber connection. Today, all communication to the island takes place via satellite.
Space Norway has now awarded Seaworks the contract to place fiber cable from Bodø to Fauske, reports Svalbardposten.
The fiber connection is the first part of the new cable between mainland Norway and Svalbard.
