Strong Earthquake in Southern Greenland

The National Geological Survey for Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) confirms that there was a large earthquake in Greenland on Saturday, according to Sermitsiaq.

Senior Researcher Trine Dahl-Jensen at GEUS describes the quake as rather strong for Greenland.

“Since 1970, there have been some ten earthquackes in South Greenland measuring more than 4 on the Richter scale. So the new quake of 4.5 is not the biggest one, but it belongs on the list of large quakes here”, she says.

The earthquake took place northeast of Nanortalik. GEUS has received reports about the quake from inhabitants in Nanortalik and in Narsarsuaq.
