Still Not Full Nordic Council Membership for Greenland and the Faroe Islands

The Faroe Islands and Greenland do not hold full membership rights at the Nordic Council, and during a debate in the Danish parliament on 14 October, the question was once again raised, according to Sermitsiaq.

The Danish Minister for Nordic Cooperation Fleming Møller Mortensen (S) said that neither the Faroe Islands nor Greenland are eligible for full membership at the Nordic Council. The Helsinki Agreement has been the main argument for denying them this, as the agreement states that only independent states can become members.

The Faroe Islands have tried four times before to achieve full membership at with the Nordic Council.
