Siumut Exit in Greenland Coalition Negotiations

The Siumut party is no longer involved in the coalition negotiations to form a self-rule government in Greenland, according to Sermitsiaq. Siumut is the party of former Premier Kim Kielsen, who up until the parliamentary elections last week was the leader of the self-rule authority.

The election’s winner IA is currently only negotiating with the Atassut and Naleraq parties, following the Democrats previously refusing to enter into coalition negotiations. While IA was most successful in the election, it is nevertheless dependent on forming a coalition in order to have the majority in the Inatsisartut (self-rule parliament).

IA leader Mute B. Egede says Siumut continues being ridden with instability and power struggles, and that IA thus does not consider it a partner that would contribute to creating peace in political cooperation.
