Russian “Police Car” in Svalbard
Recently, a car looking very similar to a Russian police car appeared in the Russian settlement of Barentsburg in Svalbard, writes the Barents Observer. The only difference is that the name politsiya (police) has been replaced with administratsiya (administration).
It is illegal to imitate police cars in both Norway and Russia. According to a history professor at UiT Norway Arctic University, Kari Aga Myklebost, it follows a clear pattern from the Russian state-owned mining company Trust Arktikugol.
The Russian “police car” was pulled over this summer with Russian license plates that were subsequently removed.
