Repparfjorden Protest Against Cabinet Meeting
When the Norwegian government ministers drive to the royal Palace in Oslo today for its weekly cabinet meeting with the King, Young Friends of the Earth Norway as well as other environmental organizations will demonstrate along the way leading up to the Palace, according to a press release from YFE Norway.
The demonstration is a protest against the government’s decision announced yesterday to give Nussir ASA an operating license for mining activities in Kvalsund municipality, Finnmark county, the tailings from which will be deposited in the Reppar Fjord. More than 3,300 people have signed up to volunteer to civilian disobedience actions in order to stop the mine.
Nussir ASA is expected to start construction work in about a year’s time, provided that it can get funding. The environmental protection organizations state that they also will take action against investors in the project.
