Reduced shrimp quota in Greenland
The shrimp quota in Greenland has been reduced to 83,125 tons.
This is reported by Sermitsiaq.
According to the management plan, the quota can vary by a maximum of 12.5 percent, but the authorities have now gone beyond this limit out of concern for the stock.
The Greenlandic government, Naalakkersuisut, states that the quota is reduced to keep the annual catch at a level where the total mortality does not exceed a level that ensures the long-term optimal utilization of the stock.
Sermitsiaq writes that shrimp fishing is vital for Greenland's exports. From January to October this year, shrimp exports amounted to two billion kroner, or half of Greenland's total exports of approximately four billion kroner.
