A Record Number of Students Learn Sami in Nordland
Student statistics for 2023-24 show that 213 students in Nordland, Northern Norway, receive Sami language training in primary school this school year, the highest number ever.
This was reported by the County Governor of Nordland in a press release.
The number of students has increased from 147 to 213 in the last ten years. Today, 86 pupils receive training in Northern Sami in the primary school in Nordland, 93 in Lule Sami, and 34 in Southern Sami.
"We are very pleased that there is progress for the Sami language. It means that the Sami language is strengthened and developed in our county," says the County Governor, Tom Cato Karlsen.
