Last year saw more reports of rape to the Icelandic police than any year before it: 263 reports across the country. That is 20 percent more than in 2017, according to RÙV.
Around 550 sexual crimes were registered around Iceland last year; nearly half of them rapes. As population figures would suggest, the largest number of cases were reported in the capital region.
The figures do not explain why the numbers have jumped.
