Passenger Traffic on the Iron Ore Line Will Not Resume Until June
The Swedish Transport Administration has announced that passenger traffic on the Iron Ore Line will resume on June 18th at the earliest.
Since December, the Iron Ore Line has seen two derailments, which have caused extensive damage and closed the section for a long time.
The Swedish Transport Administration has decided that passenger traffic on the route will not resume until June 18th at the earliest. Freight traffic resumed on March 7th.
"Safety always comes first, and to enable a start for passenger traffic, a final alignment of the track is required. We understand that many hoped for an earlier start. Still, the final restoration of the track must take place under certain weather conditions and, therefore, cannot start until a certain daytime temperature has been reached and the frost has left the ground," says Helena Eriksson, regional director for the northern region of the Swedish Transport Administration.
