Norwegian Government Launches Svalbard Tourism Support Initiative

The Norwegian government has decided to establish a NOK 25 million grant scheme for transition and development of tourism in Svalbard. The scheme should contribute to rebuilding and transitioning an industry in Svalbard that has been severely hit by the current pandemic.

For companies in Svalbard, this scheme will come in addition to the national schemes.

The regulations for the scheme are currently out on a very short hearing, with a 4-day deadline for feedback and input. The plan is for the scheme to be operative by the turn of the year.

Longyearbyen Local Council has agreed to govern the scheme.
