The Norwegian Crown Prince to Open Andøya Spaceport in November
H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon will officially open the new Norwegian spaceport on Andøya on November 2nd, 2023.
From its humble beginning in 1962, Andøya Space has grown to include testing of new technologies, educational activities, drones, and now launching of satellites.
The new spaceport on Andøya in Vesterålen will facilitate launches of small satellites into polar and sun-synchronous orbits around Earth, according to a press release.
The spaceport will, among other things, be an important launch site for earth observation and ocean monitoring satellites and will mark a new beginning for Norway's opportunities to contribute to the green shift.
The spaceport investment is not least about creating new opportunities in Norway today, but perhaps more so for the next generation.
The spaceport is considered to be one of the first in Europe to actually launch satellites, and the opening will therefore mark a new and exciting future for Norway as an international space nation.
The official opening, with the Crown Prince present, will be both a celebration for the people and space enthusiasts, and a celebration of innovation. The opening will have a particular focus on children and youth.
