Norway’s Minke Whale Quota Unchanged from 2019 to 2020

The Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Seafood has set the minke whale quota at 1,278 animals for 2020, according to a recent press release.

There are more than 100,000 minke whales in Norwegian waters. The quota for 2020 is 1,278; the same number as for 2019. This year, 12 vessels participated in the minke whale hunt and caught a total of 429 animals. That represents a minor decrease from the previous year.

The quota has been set based on calculation models from the scientific committee of the International Whaling Commission.
