Norway Increases Snow Crab Quota for 2020

The Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries has set a total snow crab quota for 2020 on the Norwegian continental shelf at 4,500 tons. That represents a 500 tons increase from 2019, according to the Ministry.

“We are very pleased with the good fisheries in 2019 and also with the fact that the Institute of Marine Research has now assessed the stock and found it to be on a level that allows us to increase the total quota for 2020. Insecurity remains regarding the estimate on the Norwegian shelf in the Barents Sea. We have therefore set a total quota for 2020 that secures a sustainable outtake of snow crab next year while also contributing to increased stability for the years to come”, says Fisheries and Seafood Minister Harald T. Nesvik.

20 tons of the total quota have been set aside for research purposes.
