No Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race This Year
Mushers and former board members say the Yukon Quest is cancelled this year, because there is no one left to organize the iconic sled dog race.
This was reported by CBC News.
The Yukon Quest is a 1,600-kilometer sled dog race and has been organized every February since 1984 between Fairbanks, Alaska, and Whitehorse, Yukon, switching directions each year.
Because of the harsh winter conditions, the challenging trail, and the limited support allowed for competitors, some call it the toughest race in the world, even tougher than the Iditarod race.
Now, this year's edition has been cancelled. A former board member says there is no one left to organize the race and that there is a certain degree of burnout among volunteers.
