New Mining Legislation for N.W.T. Expected to Come Into Force in 2027
New mining legislation is expected to come into force in the Northwest Territories in Canada in 2027.
The timeline for the Mineral Resources Act was presented by the Canadian Minister of Industry, Tourism, and Investment, Caitlin Cleveland, as well as Deputy Minister Pamela Strand and Deputy Minister Menzie McEachern.
McEachern said that "One of the key benefits is that there are increased opportunities for relationship-building and knowledge-sharing between mineral exploration and mining companies and Indigenous governments and organizations," he said.
The Mineral Resources Act was passed in 2019, but regulations had to be developed before implementation.
