New Inuit TV Channel in Canada

A new TV channel, Inuit TV, is about to be established in Canada, according to KNR. The channel will broadcast exclusively in Inuktut, which is the common term for various linguistic dialects of the Inuit language.

Inuit TV will focus on Inuit culture, language and teaching and is expected to become an important transmitter of Inuit film and music. The Director of the new channel, Alethea Amaquq-Baril, says the channel is established simply because there are not enough Inuktut programs on existing TV channels.

Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated is behind the new channel. If all permits are obtained, the channel will start broadcasting this autumn. It is schedule to broadcast full-time from 2021.
