New Greenlandic Research Vessel to Map Disco Bay

Greenland’s new research vessel Tarajoq recently docked in Nuuk. The 61-meters long research vessel has cost DKK 235 million and represents Greenland’s largest research investment so far, Sermitsiaq reports.

Researcher Diana Krawczyk from Greeland’s Nature Institute says in a statement that researchers using the vessel can map the topography of the seabed down to a depth of 3,000 meters below sea level, as well as explore underlying geological units.

Now, Greenland’s Nature Institute, the Zoological Society of London, the University of Vermont, DTU Aqua and GEUS (the Danish Geological Survey) are to start mapping the seabed off Disco Bay on the northwestern coast of Greenland.
