New Giant Meteor Crater Under Greenland’s Ice
Late 2018, international scientists could present the news that they had found a giant meteor crater under Greenland’s ice. Now, the lead scientist behind the study can, in collaboration with NASA, present the finding of a potential new crater – one bigger than the previous, and one that was also created during the last ice age.
The new study is published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, according to Sermitisiaq.
- If our calculations are correct, it is crazy. We then have two giant asteroids having penetrated the atmosphere at the same time in general proximity of each other, and that at a time when people lived on earth, professor Kurt H. Kjær says.
So far, it has not been possible to conduct geological tests on the new crater as it is located deeper inside and underneath the ice than the previously presented one.
