New Analyses Show Ice-Free Greenland

Through studying old and originally forgotten samples that were re-discovered almost by accident, scientists have found out that Greenland was covered by forest one million years ago, according to Sermitsiaq.

An old ice core drilled in Greenland in the 1960s contained macro fossils proving to include twigs, leaves and moss, demonstrating that Greenland was covered by pine tree forest one million years ago, much like in Canada today.

These results concur with two previous ice core samples from other locations in Greenland, and all combined support the theory about a warm period in Greenland during which there was no inland ice.
