Municipalities in Eastern Finnmark get slower 5G network than the rest of Norway

Because of activities of the Norwegian Armed Forces as well as Russia, six municipalities in Eastern Finnmark will get a slower 5G network than the rest of the country. This is reported by the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen. The municipalities that will be affected by a worse 5G solution are Sør-Varanger, Vadsø, Vardø, Båtsfjord, Tana and Nesseby.

The newspaper writes that the frequencies that should provide faster mobile networks have already been put into use. It is pointed out that both the Norwegian Armed Forces' activities in Vardø, as well as Russian military activity, use the frequencies.

Mayor Willy Pedersen (Labour) says he understands that the Norwegian Armed Forces uses available technological solutions to safeguard security, but adds that he has little understanding of Russia taking up this capacity.
