Melting Glaciers Causes Growing Pains for Greenland

New research shows that Greenland’s glaciers melt faster than expected. But unlike the rest of the world, Greenland needs not fear increased sea levels, according to KNR.

Scientists show that the land along the coast of Greenland has risen with more than two meters since 1880, and near the Kangerlussuaq Glacier, mountains are four meters higher.

– Ironically, this means that Greenland will not see any rising of sea levels. On the contrary, the water will sink around all of Greenland, says Professor Abbas Kahn of DTU Space.

The reason is that the land rises when the weight of glaciers decreases. Greenland thus will not have to worry about flooding, the scientist argues.
