Mass Evacuation of Alaskan Residents Complete

The mass evacuation by military aircraft of hundreds of residents from Alaska villages ravaged by the remnants of Typhoon Halong is complete, writes U.S. News.

Typhoon Halong hit Alaska earlier this month and led to record water levels in two low-lying communities, even washing away homes, some with people inside.

Initial estimates suggest 90% of buildings were destroyed in Kipnuk, and 35% of buildings in Kwigillingok, according to a report released by Alaska's emergency management division.

The mass evacuation following the storm is now complete, and officials and local leaders are turning attention to trying to stabilize damaged infrastructure and housing where they can before the winter freeze sets in.
