Man Injured in Svalbard Polar Bear Attack

A man has been injured and brought to hospital in Longyearbyen following two people’s being attacked by a polar bear in the Mohn Bay on the east side of Spitsbergen Tuesday morning, according to NRK. The man who was attacked is said to be lightly hurt.

The two have killed the bear, says Svalbard Governor Kjerstin Askholt to NRK.

The incident will now be investigated.

Since 1971, a total of six people have been killed by polar bears on the archipelago.
