Kebnekaise Ice Cap Continues to Melt

The southern summit of Kebnekaise, which is covered by a glacier, has melted by 1.4 meters this year. This shows a measurement carried out by the Tarfala research station, writes SVT Norrbotten.

Kebnekaise is Sweden's highest mountain, and is located in Kiruna municipality, Lapland.

Over the past 25 years, the height of the south peak has decreased by around 1 meter per year. Until recently, it was equally Sweden's highest point, but now the mountain's northern peak (which consists of solid rock) rises higher with its 2096.8 m. Sydtoppen measures 2093.2 m above sea level.
