Investment of Hundreds of Millions to Strengthen Marine Safety

The Canadian Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, Joyce Murray, announced that Canada will invest 84 million Canadian dollars in the Canadian Arctic. 

The investment goes towards Canadian Hydrographic Survey and Canada's coast guard. According to CBC.ca, the government will spend 84 million Canadian dollars to map out the ocean floor and make Arctic navigation safer.

Murray also announced that it will put up 24.7 million Canadian dollars in funding to expand the Coast Guard in the Rankin Inlet area.

"We will have more people from the communities that are part of our search and rescue and an enhanced search and rescue capacity over the coming years," said Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Joyce Murray, according to the CBC.
