International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples August 9th

August 9th was the UN International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.

The day highlights the diversity and culture of indigenous peoples, and increases efforts against discrimination and exclusion, writes the UN.

The day was introduced in 1994 in connection with the first meeting of the working group for the world's indigenous peoples. The group's activities are part of the UN's work for human rights.
