Indigenous boom in Northern Quebec, Canada

Northern Quebec, which includes the indigenous region of Nunavik, is not like the rest of the Arctic: Its population is fast-growing and young.

Population growth in Northern Quebec is larger than in the rest of Quebec, mainly large to high birth numbers. The disparity in life expectancy would be even larger if data was included solely for Nunavik, according to Nunatsiaq NewsIn 2017, the median age in Northern Quebec was 30.2 years, much younger than the median age of 41 years in other regions.

A recent research report notes that the Nunavik population up 18 per cent from 2011 to 2017, which makes it the fastest growing region in Quebec.
