Immigrants Overrepresented Among Jobseekers in Nordland
At the end of September, Nordland in Northern Norway still had the country's lowest unemployment, with 1.3 percent completely unemployed. On the other hand, it is a concern that unemployment among immigrants is as much as 4.0 percent, while the rest of the population has 0.9 percent completely unemployed.
That's what NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) Nordland writes in a press release.
Among the registered completely unemployed jobseekers, immigrants make up 39 percent, and the majority of these come from countries outside the EU/EEA.
"We now see that the Ukrainians who have come to Norway during the past year and a half are registering on the labor market," says NAV director in Nordland, Cathrine Stavnes. "It is important that those who can, get to work quickly. They and other immigrants represent an important contribution to companies that have recruitment challenges. At NAV, we have wage subsidies and instruments that cover the costs of upgrading skills, whether it concerns Norwegian skills or subjects, and we can also cover the costs of a mentor in the company."
