Iditarod Winner Thomas Wærner Withdraws From Race

The Norwegian Iditarod 2020 winner Thomas Wærner has withdrawn from the 2021 race.

Wærner says it has proven more or less impossible to get himself and his dogs to Alaska to participate in the 2021 Iditarod due to the Corona situation.

He now plans on participating in the 650 km long Femund Race and the 1,200 km long Finnmark Race in Norway this winter, and then return to Alaska for the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod in 2022.

In March 2020, Wærner became the third-ever Norwegian to win the Iditarod, following the trails of Robert Sørlie (2003, 2005) and Joar Leifseth Ulsom (2018).
