Icelandic Drop-Out Rate Record Low

The rate of drop-out among those registered for further education in Iceland has never been lower and the proportion of students successfully graduating has never been higher, according to RUV Iceland, relying on new figures from Hagstofa Íslands (Statistics Iceland).

60 percent of students who started post-compulsory education in autumn 2015 had graduated four years later.

The Hagstofa Íslands report states that the proportion of students graduating in four years or less has increased by 36 percent between 2018 and 2019.

Further education in Iceland is the four years of education (usually around age 16 to 20) after primary school and before university. It is not compulsory, but a large majority of people choose to sign up.
