Greenland's Arctic Strategy Will Likely Be Launched After Easter

Naalakkersuisut, the Greenlandic government, expects to present its suggestion for the Arctic strategy to other parties at the national parliament after Easter, writes KNR. It is now yet known when the draft will be made public.

The drawing up of the new Greenlandic strategy began in 2021 – and it is expected to pave the way for a new joint Arctic strategy for Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. The previous joint strategy applied to the period of 2011-2020.

Furthermore, the new Danish MFA Lars Løkke Rasmussen (Moderates) has called for progress in the Greenlandic work. However, he must be patient and adopt a different form of cooperation, suggests Vivian Motzfeldt (Siumut), Naalakkersuisoq for foreign affairs.

"First of all, we will get our Greenlandic foreign, security, and defense policy strategy in place. And we will address the issue of a possible Arctic strategy for the kingdom with the Greenlandic parties first, stated Motzfeldt to KNR.

She also criticizes how Denmark did not listen to Naalakkersuisut's wish for a Greenlandic diplomat as the kingdom's new Arctic ambassador in a recent appointment.
